WEEK'S UP FOR WEEKENDING 2 SEPTEMBER 2016

Another productive week (albeit a few tears at dismissal!) with more work being achieved in the classes as the new joiners, happily settled in their new environments, using the materials and well on the way to discovery!
ARRIVALS AND DISMISSALS
Arrivals – Hear our plea!  We have only three hours to educate your children, therefore it is essential that we begin our sessions promptly at 8:15a.m. (morning session) and at 12:30p.m. (afternoon session).

We open our doors to receive the children at 8:00a.m. in the morning and 12:20p.m. in the afternoon, and we invite you to use this window so that our children get the most out of the day!

Dismissals - The ‘pick and go’ arrangement is going smoothly, we like to think!  The ‘pick and slow’ group is gradually falling into place and we thank you for your patience while we attempt to make improvements to the process.  In consideration of the ‘sunny side’ of things, we added a waiting area that is beside the Health Check Station (behind the Administrator’s Office) with large fans, for those who arrive before 11:15a.m.  However it is best that you arrive at 11:20a.m. to avoid waiting too long in line.  Kindly observe the posted directions to proceed to the dismissal door.  Please be mindful where you park and to ensure that when you do, you do not obstruct the traffic on Broadrick Road nor, our neighbour’s access to their residences.  The ‘pick ‘n play’ group should note the above.  Please be advised that you are required to be with your child if he/she decided to stay back and use our play area.  Kindly note that you are responsible for your child, after dismissal.
We will open the doors once the children have said their ‘goodbyes’, after 11:15a.m.

Special Instructions for Dismissals: We would appreciate receiving any special instructions for dismissals, i.e. pick up by another person, pick up rather than travelling on the bus, etc., by 10:30a.m. (morning session) and 3:00p.m.(afternoon session and the Extended Day programmes).  As you may have observed, it’s ‘all hands on deck’ at dismissals and we cannot answer the phone, close to that time.

VERY IMPORTANT!
FORMS TO BE RETURNED - We have two forms in your child’s folder that was sent on Friday, which we have also emailed to you.
Forms for completing your information to issue Identification Tags and to ask for Volunteers at school.
Kindly returned these by Monday, 5 September 2016.  We require photos of all persons authorised to collect children, to be affixed to the former, (above).  Scanned forms as PDF’ with clear photos are acceptable

HEALTH IS WEALTH.. they say!
ZIKA - Our school compound is monitored every day, for stagnant water. We have, already in place, a schedule for fogging with a reliable pest control company.  During special evening events like the Mid-Autumn Festival and Diwali celebrations, the school will be fogged after sessions before the events.  To find out more about the Zika virus, click on the following link.

SPORTS:
The sports session began this week.  If you have not signed up your child for the term, please contact the school office for arrangements.

Dancercise with Suhairi:
We will resume the ‘dancercise’ sessions with Suhairi for the extended-day children in the coming week.
UPCOMING COOKERY PROJECT:An exciting cookery project planned for this month.  We cannot reveal too much, except that in temperate climates, this is traditionally the time of the year when ‘preserves’ are made.

MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL (MOON FESTIVAL):

Lanterns hanging in a line…

Advisory: Please consider making a trip to Chinatown in the coming week to shop for a lantern (battery operated please!) to celebrate the mid-Autumn festival.  The children will be invited to bring their lanterns to school, so they may hang it up and add to the decorations that we intend putting up, on Thursday, 16 September 2016 when we celebrate the event.  Please make a note!  We plan to start the proceedings at 6.30 p.m.

Quiz: Who (from our staff) plays ‘Chang Er this year?

This year the Mid-Autumn night falls on 15 September 2016.  This ancient tradition, is celebrated over three days in China, the night before, the day of the full moon and, on the following day!  For logistical considerations, we will be celebrating the
Mid-Autumn festival in school on Friday, 16 September, 2016 (please note change from the school calendar).   The festivities begin at 6:35p.m and you and your family are  invited!

We welcome contributions of mooncakes, pomelos (fruit), Chinese (jasmine) tea bags, dry snacks and drinks. (As always, we ask that you be mindful that the snacks you send do not contain nuts of any sort. Thank you.)  Please contact the office at 6345 0087 or e-mail us at broadrick@montessori.edu.sg if you wish to add to the fare so we know what to expect.  You may also contribute packeted drinks and bottles of water.  More information will be made available to you, nearer to the date.
Children and parents are encouraged to dress in Chinese clothing, for the occasion!  Here are some examples.  These outfits are readily available in and around Chinatown.
